Itasca traffic checks:
The Itasca Police Department is joining the statewide effort, Operation Save 100, which aims for Illinois to set a record by experiencing the fewest motor vehicle fatalities since 1921. The effort will target DUI and safety belt violations and will run today through Dec. 31. As part of the campaign, Itasca police will conduct two seat belt enforcement zones from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 18 and 11 p. m. Nov. 24 until 3 a.m. the following morning.
Winter market to begin:
Wheaton's outdoor French market is moving indoors. Starting Saturday, the winter French market opens in the downtown Wheaton train station located at West and Front streets. Baked goods, specialty cheeses, Michigan apples, honey and other locally made products will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday through April 10. Free food for museum goers:
Families who work up an appetite playing at DuPage Children's Museum can get free food from Chipotle on the way home. From Saturday through Nov. 22, visitors to the Naperville museum at 301 N. Washington St. will be given receipts to take to one of four local Chipotle restaurants in Naperville, Aurora, Warrenville and Wheaton. The receipts are good for a free burrito, bowl, salad or tacos.
WW South presents "Fuddy Meers":
Wheaton Warrenville South High School's production of "Fuddy Meers" continues 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the high school. The play by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire follows the life of Claire, a woman who wakes up every day with amnesia. West Chicago traffic enforcement:
The West Chicago Police Department is joining the Illinois in the Highway Safety Project Program. The department received a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation for about $48,000 that will allow it to hire back extra officers to provide traffic enforcement for child restraint, seat belt, speeding, and alcohol related violations. The grant started Oct. 1 this year and concludes on Sept. 30, 2010. During this time there will be five different enforcement campaigns and the first runs from Friday to Nov. 29.
Itasca award celebration:
The Itasca Park District will host a Gold Medal Community Celebration from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the park district, 350 E. Irving Park Road. The event will celebrate the park district's recent win of a prestigious national award and will include free giveaways, snacks, DJ music, games, prizes and more. For details, call (630) 773-2257.
Willowbrook High School music honors:
The Willowbrook Music Boosters Scholarship Program is awarded to students to help further their skills with private lessons. Ten students were recognized for their outstanding performances in band, orchestra and choir. An outstanding freshman is also recognized. The winners performed at the school earlier this month. This year's recipients are: Sarah Noah, Elaine Schaudt, Hayley Camire, Rachel Vaughan, Patrick Mucerino, Brooke Robinson, Danielle Zito, Marina Stingley, Emily Kelley and Lizzie Lundine.
