Murder Mystery fundraiser: 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, Tuscany Restaurant, 550 S. Milwaukee, Wheeling. The Aviva/Lilah Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold a fundraising dinner with a murder mystery program presented by the Saint Sebastian Players of Chicago. Safe boating class: 7 p.m. Thursdays for nine weeks starting Jan. 29, College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Course will include boat terminology, required equipment, regulations, marine communications, boat handling, aids to navigation, rules of the road, emergency conditions, trailering, charts, the magnetic compass, plotting and basic piloting techniques for use on open water. American Legion Auxiliary: Entries are due by Feb. 6. The American Legion Auxiliary is taking entries to join the Americanism Essay contest titled, "Where are the American Heroes of Today." Lake County Radio Control Club: 9 p.m. to midnight, Fridays, Field House Sports & Fitness Center 800 N Baldwin Ave, Waukegan. During winter, the club flies model airplanes, helicopters and other radio controlled devices in the 40,000 square foot indoor venue. The fee for flying on Fridays is $10 per person and you and an Academy of Model Aeronautics card from the club is necessary. Indoor flying will take place through the end of March and possibly longer depending on the weather.
