ECC Foundation invites community to attend 2018 Founders' Day Celebration
An impressive array of community leaders and Elgin Community College alumni will be honored for their achievements and contributions to educational excellence during ECC's 20th annual Founders' Day Celebration and Luncheon on Sunday, Feb. 18. It will be 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Founders' Day Celebration commemorates the 1949 founding of the college, as well as recognizes distinguished achievements made by ECC students, alumni, employees, retirees and other community partners and supporters in fulfilling the college's mission to improve people's lives through learning.
"ECC graduates go on to do amazing things within our community and throughout the world," said Katherine Sawyer, ECC's executive director of advancement and foundation. "We are incredibly proud of our alumni. Their accomplishments serve as inspiration for current students to pursue their goals and act as motivation for all ECC entities to strive for institutional excellence by continuing to provide high quality learning opportunities."
The 2018 honorees include the Distinguished Alumni Award winners Ronald Krivosik (Class of '84) and Julie Lichtenberg (Class of '80); college retirees Polly Nash and Jack Weiss, Ed.D.; ECC Foundation Directors Emeritus Carolyn Kirk-Likou, Jack Shales and Shales McNutt Construction; and recipients of the Lasting Impact Award winners Eleanor "Ellie" MacKinney, Carl Lundstrom, Brett Lundstrom and the Dumoulin family.
Organized by the Elgin Community College Foundation, proceeds from the event are directed to the Resources for Excellence annual fund, enabling student success through scholarship funds, program support, innovation grants and other emergent needs. Event co-chairs Mike Lee, chief executive officer of KCT Credit Union, and Caren Nickelsen, ECC Foundation director emeritus, have seen the impact of these investments firsthand.
"ECC students have made a commitment to an exceptional education that will improve their lives. The ability to invest in their potential, by removing financial barriers, and encourage them on their path is very rewarding," said Lee.
The event will be held in the college's Building C Library and Building B Jobe Lounge, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Guests will first check in at the library at 11:30 a.m. and will be treated to an opening reception with champagne and hors d'oeruvres. A buffet luncheon follows in the Jobe Lounge at 12:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to enter raffles for gifts and prizes, and awards will be presented shortly thereafter.
Tickets for the event are $75 per person and can be purchased in advance by Friday, Feb. 9 at elgin.edu/eccfoundation. Seating is limited.
