ECC to offer bi-weekly information sessions for unemployed or underemployed residents

Elgin Community College will begin offering bi-weekly information sessions to help unemployed and underemployed Kane County residents take advantage of the available Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act grant.

Sponsored by the Department of Labor, in coordination with the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services, the act provides tuition assistance for academic programs that lead to high-demand occupations in Illinois.

WIOA is designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market. It also matches employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.

Qualifying dislocated workers may receive up to $10,000 in tuition assistance, which typically covers the entire cost of WIOA-approved training and academic programs offered by ECC. The grant includes education in the following fields: automotive, business, communication design, computer integrated manufacturing, criminal justice, culinary arts, dental, emergency medical technology, energy management, fire science, health care, HVAC, human services, legal, public safety, truck driving, welding and more.

The WIOA information sessions will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month, beginning Oct. 4, in Building K, Room 115 at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Sessions are hosted by the ECC Office of Workforce Development, an Illinois workNet partner. For more information, call (847) 214-6901.
