Kane County Recycles, Masters Gardeners host one-day compost bin sale

Soil Saver Compost Bins will be on sale for $50 each at a one-day event hosted by Kane County Recycles and the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at University of Illinois Extension, 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

The cost will be $50 each. Retail price is $90-$100 and regular price at the extension is $65.

"Our intent is to help as many people as possible to recycle food scraps and landscape waste at home," said Jennifer Jarland, Kane County Recycling Program Coordinator. "Backyard composting keeps food scraps out of the landfill, thereby reducing methane release from landfills, and converts the scraps into a nutrient-rich soil amendment, which can be applied to your garden beds to help your veggies and flowers flourish."

Kane County Recycles will be selling the Soil Saver bins and Master Gardeners will be available to talk to attendees and share "how-to" advice.

The University of Illinois Extension is a brick building on the west side of Randall Road, just north of Route 38 and south of Route 64, in front of the Kane County Fairgrounds. If you are traveling northbound, there is a left-hand turn lane into the lot.
