Midwest Sports Academy to host 'Hoop for Peace' June 24

Midwest Sports Academy in Huntley will host "Hoop For Peace - Coming Together, Stop the Violence" event from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Judson University, 1151 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin. It will feature a basketball game of the Cook County officers vs. local first responders.

It also will feature performances by the Jesse White Tumblers and the South Shore Drill Team, magic by Carl Santos, and music by DJ Dre and The Future. There also will be kids games with prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

Admission is $5, $3 for children. It is a fundraiser for Midwest Sports Academy. The event is designed to start a movement in the local communities that motivates residents to do their part to end the cycle of violence in this generation.

Midwest Sports Academy was started by founder and CEO Jim Cook. Its mission is to encourage citizenship, personal discipline, honesty and a work ethic in children, age 9 to 16. The organization demonstrates these goals to children and adults via participation in raising funds for Ronald McDonald House, providing Christmas toys, clothes, shoes Final Four field trips and Thanksgiving baskets for the underprivileged. The academy also hosts programs such as mentoring and educational field trips. Program offerings are designed to meet child's specific needs. The academy serves students from a wide range of communities, including Rockford, Elgin, Gilberts, Aurora, Bartlett, Streamwood, Schaumburg, South Elgin and Carpentersville.

They are looking for additional sponsors and donations to supplement the funds brought in from the event.
