Celebrate the music of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell Dec. 11 at ECC

The ECC Arts Center will present "Girls Like Us: The Music of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell" on Friday, Dec. 11 at the ECC Arts Center. The performance will be held in the Blizzard Theatre, Building H on ECC's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Inspired by the book of the same name by Sheila Weller, "Girls Like Us" features three celebrated Chicago performers: Laura Freeman, Beckie Menzie, and Marianne Murphy Orland. Freeman, Menzie, and Orland perform a moving showcase of the music and life stories of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell - three iconic singers, rock superstars, and adventures of the heart and soul.

Freeman has been delighting audiences, around the country and abroad, for over twenty years. She has toured both nationally and internationally, performing in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Into the Woods," "Hair," and "Godspell." In 2010, Freeman appeared onstage with Patti LuPone in "Annie Get Your Gun" at Ravinia.

An award-winning concert artist, Menzie has appeared at some of the nation's top nightclubs and concert venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Birdland in New York, and Chicago's Auditorium Theatre and Park West. Hailed by Chicago's WGN Radio as "one of the city's finest cabaret performers," Menzie is a three-time winner of Chicago's After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Artist.

Orland has performed as a singer, cabaret artist, actor, director, and voice-over/narration talent both locally and nationally. She has sung the national anthem for the Chicago White Sox, and is a longtime lead singer with society orchestras, show bands, and dance bands including the Dan Hayes Orchestra, Nightshift Orchestra, Spectrum, and Frat Boys & Future Stewardesses.

Tickets to "Girls Like Us: The Music of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell" are $28. A three-course, preshow dinner prepared by ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program is available for an additional $29. The menu features soup, beef bourguignon accompanied by herb mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, and vanilla bean cheesecake. The deadline for dinner reservations is Monday, Dec. 7.
