Vista names its Employee of the Year

Domingo Lopez, an ultrasound technologist, has been named 2014 Employee of the Year for Vista Health System. Lopez receives Vista's highest honor after previously being named Employee of the Month for September 2014.

"Each employee plays an important role in delivering quality care and creating the best possible experience for our patients," said Barbara Martin, president and chief executive officer. "Domingo exemplifies the best of who we are as health care providers through his dedication to our patients and the hospital. It is a pleasure to recognize Domingo and celebrate the hard work of all our employees."

Vista employees are nominated for the award by their colleagues based on their commitment to patient care, their professionalism and their contributions on the job. Lopez was chosen for the recognition from more than 1,000 employees.

Vista Health System includes two hospitals in Waukegan - Vista Medical Center East and Vista Medical Center West - along with several imaging and outpatient centers in Lindenhurst and Gurnee, plus physician practice clinics across Lake County.

Lopez's commitment to his patients is well known in his department. He was late to his own Employee of the Month celebration in September so he could stay longer with a patient, and then had to cut the event short because he had more patients waiting.

A colleague noted in the nominating form that Lopez puts patients at ease for even the most difficult procedures every step of the way. On a recent survey, one patient checked the box that he would recommend Vista, and the reason he wrote was "because of Domingo."

As an ultrasound technologist, Lopez aims sound waves toward the area of the patient that is in need of treatment, then collects the echoes that are reflected back in order to create an image. He then transmits these images so the physician can use them to make diagnoses.

"Domingo is an exceptional member of the Vista team, and we're delighted to recognize him as Vista's 2014 Employee of the Year," Martin said.
