Property tax appeal seminar to be held Dec. 1

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will hold a property tax assessment appeal seminar for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2014 property tax assessments at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59 in Bartlett.

The seminar is co-hosted by Hanover Township Assessor Thomas S. Smogolski and Township Supervisor Brian McGuire.

The hourlong session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal and address why property taxes go up when the value of your home goes down.

The seminar includes a presentation by Commissioner Dan Patlak explaining the appeal procedure at the Board of Review. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of Review to address their specific questions and concerns.

This event is free to the public; no reservation necessary. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.

Appeal forms also may be picked up at the Board of Review located at 118 N. Clark St., Room 601 in Chicago, or at the Rolling Meadows office, 2121 Euclid Ave., Room 237, Rolling Meadows. Taxpayers may also file an appeal online by visiting the Board of Review website, www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
