ECC named Military Friendly School for fourth consecutive year

Elgin Community College has been named a Military Friendly School for 2015 by G.I. Jobs magazine, one of the premier publications for people transitioning from the military to civilian life.

This is the fourth consecutive year the college has received the designation from G.I. Jobs magazine, which reaches more than 75,000 military personnel worldwide and provides information on education, transition assistance, and job opportunities.

"Veterans can rely on Elgin Community College as an institution that values their military experience and offers them the best education, value, and friendliness," says Anitra King, the college's career and veteran specialist.

The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation. The methodology used for making the Military Friendly Schools list has changed the student veteran landscape to one much more transparent, and has played a significant role over the past six years in capturing and advancing best practices to support military students across the country.

As part of the designation, ECC will be included in the magazine's 2015 "Guide to Military Friendly Schools" and receive a listing online at militaryfriendlyschools.com.

ECC provides a number of resources for veterans, such as ensuring support for those who are disabled, counseling assistance, and financial aid and educational benefits assistance.
