Audition for "Crazy for You" Nov. 6, 9 at ECC
Elgin Community College Musical Theatre announces auditions for the spring production of the "Crazy for You: The New Gershwin Musical," with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, and a book by Ken Ludwig. Directing and choreographing the musical is Konnie Kay. ECC professor John G. Slawson is the artistic and musical director.
"Crazy for You" includes high-energy dance numbers and classic Gershwin songs, including "I Got Rhythm," "Embraceable You," and "Someone to Watch Over Me." Set in the 1930s, this rollicking, romantic, and timeless musical centers on a well-to-do playboy who dreams of becoming a dancer.
Auditions are available by appointment from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9.
Open auditions are scheduled at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. Auditions on Thursday, Nov. 6 will be held in the ECC Arts Center, Building H, Room H245 on the Spartan Drive campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Auditions on Sunday, Nov. 9 will be held in the ECC Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre.
Performers should prepare a musical number from any Broadway show other than "Crazy for You" and bring sheet music in a three-ring binder for the accompanist that will be provided. Taped accompaniment or a cappella singing will not be permitted. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the dance audition. Auditions are open to ages 16 and older.
If necessary, callbacks are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10.
Rehearsals for "Crazy for You" begin Monday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. Regular rehearsals are Monday through Thursday evenings, from 6 to 10 p.m. The production opens Saturday, Feb. 21 and runs weekends through Sunday, March 1, 2015.
