CLC Foundation gala generates over $120,000 for student scholarships

More than 250 friends of the College of Lake County Foundation generated more than $120,000 for student scholarships recently at the Black and White Ball: Toast of the Town, held at the historic Palmer House in downtown Chicago.

Guests enjoyed food, used mobile technology for the first time to bid on auction items and danced to the Stanley Paul Orchestra.

The event's diamond sponsor was Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion.

"As president and CEO of Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, I have the privilege of working with many College of Lake County graduates," said Scott Jones at the event.

"They are among our outstanding employee stakeholders. Investing in scholarships affords us an opportunity to ensure more students are able to reach their goals and dreams through a CLC education."

Blake Hudson, CLC alumnus and former student trustee, gave heartfelt thanks to the college for the experiences he gained as a CLC student.

"While at CLC, I developed a burning desire to serve others and eventually I came to this conclusion: My success does not find its completion in me; rather my success finds its completion in the lives of others. To continually serve as a conduit to human and communal flourishing - that's what's valuable to me now, and I owe that to CLC," he told the crowd.

Volunteer members of the CLC Foundation's Black and White Ball's steering committee were: Carol Passalaqua, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management; Chris Piazzi, Libertyville Bank & Trust Company; Joanna Rolek, Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce; Fred Scheu, College of Lake County; Sandra Shinsky, The Chicago Trust Company; Lisa Dooley Trace, Griffith, Grant & Lackie Realtors; Bob Worobow, CHP International; and Jan Zobus, chair of the Foundation Board Gala Committee.

The College of Lake County Foundation raises money to fund scholarships and grants that provide CLC students an opportunity for a better future. In the 2014 fiscal year, 385 CLC students earned CLC Foundation scholarships. To learn more about the foundation, visit www.clcillinois.edu/foundation.
