Hedstrom, Haze lead Palatine hit parade

Palatine’s softball team belted 12 hits and notched its first win of the season with a 12-6 win at Evanston on Monday in nonconference play.

Pirates senior pitcher Megan Hedstrom struck out nine as the winning pitcher and was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI while teammate Jamie Haze was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Caroline Duke (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBI), Anna Balch (1-for-3, double, 2 RBI) and Emily Mathyer (2-for-3) led the Wildkits offense.

Elk Grove 5, Glenbrook South 3: Elk Grove junior Megan Eul improved to 2-0 with a 5-hitter, 1 strikeout and no earned runs.

Multiple hitters for the visiting Grenadiers (3-0) were junior Becca Maher (2-for-3, triple, 2 runs), senior Elisa Payne (3-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBI), sophomore Brianna Leach (2-for-4) and sophomore Majorie Sloan (2-for-4). Sophomore Shannon Taucher collected 2 RBI, one on a bases-loaded walk in the first inning.

Barrington 16, Deerfield 1: Senior Morgan Olszewski (2-for-3, 5 RBI) belted a grand slam in the second inning and senior Tess Bolger (2-for-3, 5 RBI) followed with a 3-run homer as Barrington (3-0) rolled to its third straight win at the Fields of Dreams.

Sophomore and winning pitcher Keenan Dolezal (2-0) struck out six in the first three innings before senior Cassidy Kraimer (1-0) finished the final two innings with 4 strikeouts.

Also having multi-hit games for the Fillies were senior Raegan Fingerman, (3-for-3, double, 2 RBI), junior Katie Dehnert (2-for-2, triple, RBI), senior Maggie O’Hara (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and senior Sam Rosenfeld (2-for-3, 1 RBI).

Maine West 4, Rolling Meadows 3: Senior Tara Nykiel (1-0), who got the win, and classmate Ariel Valles (2-0), combined on the mound for host Maine West (3-0).

Senior Gina Larucci (2-for-3, double, 2 runs), junior Abbey Herling (2-for-3, double, RBI), senior Hanna Udischas (1-for-3, double, 2 RBI), senior Renee Pond (1-for-3, 1 run) and junior Erin Ross (2-for-3) led the Warriors’ offense.

Senior shortstop Sam Anderson went 2-for-4 for the Mustangs (2-1) while senior pitcher Sara Brunlieb (2-1) struck out three. Brunlieb tripled for the Mustangs while teammate Chloe Prodanovic had a double.
