Sounds of Faith Concert explores music, religion Nov. 4

Crystal Lake, IL- Join us on Sunday, November 4 at 5:30 pm for the Sounds of Faith Concert at the First Congregational Church Sanctuary, 461 Pierson St., Crystal Lake.

Sound of Faith is a unique opportunity to experience the traditional sounds of three religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and to learn how these sounds connect people to God and one another.

According to Dr. Shakeela Z. Hassan, “Sounds connect people to the Divine and to each other, bridging divides and promoting compassion and health for the entire human family.”

The concert will bring together thoughtful practitioners, commentators, and some of Chicago's most notable performers in sacred music. Chant and recitation will offer Jewish cantillation, Qurânic recitation, and Christian hymnody. This occasion is important to foster inter-religious understanding and to build strong ties between our religions and communities of faith.

Sounds of Faith will include a “signature opening” with the blowing of the shofar, ringing of the bells, and the chanting of the Muslim call to prayer. A chanting of the “Word of God” features selections from the Torah, the New Testament, and the Quran. The concert also includes a musical piece from our elementary and secondary school youth, among other performances and sonic expressions.

A reception and vegetarian meal will be available following the concert. Donations are accepted at the door: $20 donation suggestion for adults and $15 for students. You may register for the event by emailing your name and number of guests to soundoffaith@fcc-cl.org. The event is co-sponsored by and for the benefit of FaithBridge and The Harran Foundation.
