Free MCC talks focus on financial planning

The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation has developed a new series of events titled “MCC Educational Seminar Series: Helping You Build a Successful Future.”

This monthly seminar series will kick off from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Luecht Conference Center at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

The series will open with “Paying for College: For Your Children, Grandchildren and Yourself” by Chris Werner, vice president of External Wholesales at Oppenheimer Funds Inc.

This seminar series is ideal for parents, grandparents or family members of soon-to-be college students, high school or college students; parents of young children who are planning their financial future; and high school administrators or counselors seeking resources to help students.

Seminar topics will feature a variety of financial-related and success-oriented topics to help community members — from students to retirees — become better informed on financial matters that affect them, including paying for college, insurance options for after age 65, market outlook for 2013, tax updates, and the value of saving money and philanthropic giving.

“We are very pleased to be presenting this free seminar series to our community,” said Bill Brennan, executive director for the Friends of McHenry County College Foundation. “The seminars will be interesting and provide attendees with some sound financial advice that will help enrich their lives.”

These seminar topics are scheduled through January 2013:

October: Financial Aid Options and Long-Term Investments

November: Discovering your Insurance Options After 65

December: Market Update and Outlook for 2013

January 2013: Tax Update

The seminars are free and open to the public. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is strongly encouraged.
