Choi soaks up belated victory
A downpour wiped out the Lake County boys golf tournament at Antioch Golf Club last week.
In a makeup of the tourney Wednesday, Grayslake Central senior Dan Choi reigned.
Choi’s 73 was good for a two-stroke victory over Lake Forest’s Drew Barrett at Antioch GC.
Barrett (75), Ian Mankoff (76, third), Graham Ganshirt (77, fourth) and Drew Takacs (77, fifth) led Lake Forest to a winning total of 305. Led by Grant Smith’s 78 (seventh), Antioch (321) placed second in the eight-team field.
Antioch also got strong rounds from Briley Schultz (79, 10th), Kyle Thode (82, 13th) and Dillon Kreutzer (82, 14th).
Lakes (332, fourth) received a 78 from Petey Bennes, who finished eighth, and an 81 from Jake Carter, who was 12th.
Behind Choi, Grayslake Central (324) finished third. Kyle Balling carded a 79 (11th) for the Rams.
Sam Stanfel’s 79 (ninth) paced Grayslake North (349, sixth). Justin Schwab shot a 77 (sixth) for Zion-Benton (340, fifth).
