Submitted by McHenry County College

If you are interested in writing and don’t know where to start, the Retired Adult Program at McHenry County College will offer Writers Workshops for beginners from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, July 19, 26 and Aug. 2.

Published author and RAP member Elaine Shaw will conduct three interactive workshops for beginning writers who are looking for some direction and helpful critiquing. Each workshop will start with a presentation and Q-and-A period followed by taking pen in hand and writing a short piece. The workshop will conclude with reading, sharing, listening and absorbing comments. Each workshop is limited to 15 people.

The workshops include: Writers Workshop I: “How to Begin,” on Thursday, July 19 (use course ID NRA S75 001 when registering); Writers Workshop II: “Focus and Theme,” on Thursday, July 26 (use course ID NRA S76 001 when registering); and Writers Workshop III: “Outlines and Plots,” on Thursday, Aug. 2 (use course ID NRA S77 001 when registering).

RAP is a membership-based, noncredit program dedicated to adults ages 50 and older who are active, curious and serious about continually learning. The cost for a one-year membership is $25, and you must be a member to register for most classes.
