Learn A-Zs in recycling with county’s green guide
Submitted by Kane County Division of Environmental Resources
The 2012-2013 Kane County Recycles Green Guide is now available from the Kane County Division of Environmental Resources. You can find the electronic version on the County website at www.countyofkane.org/pages/recycling. If you would like a paper copy, contact Jennifer Jarland, Recycling Coordinator, at recycle@countyofkane.org or (630) 208-3841. Larger quantities are available upon request.
New features in the guide include an A-Z list of recycling and reuse opportunities, as well as information on latex paint recycling, backyard composting, stopping junk-mail and plastic bag recycling. The old standards are still there, with comprehensive information on electronics and book recycling, household recycling guidelines, motor oil, batteries, pharmaceuticals and hazardous waste disposal.
The free monthly collection events for electronics and books continue to be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second Saturday of every month at the County Circuit Clerk at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles.
In 2011, the county collected and recycled or redistributed more than 850,000 pounds of electronics and 46,000 pounds of books from around 8,000 households.
