Bava hits grand slam in Glenbard South win

Senior Zach Bava hit a grand slam, junior Tony Tenuta pitched five strong innings, and the Glenbard South baseball team beat Fenton 13-1 on Friday to win its sixth straight game.

Bava went 2-for-4 on the night, driving in five runs as Glenbard South (17-8, 10-2 Metro Suburban Conference) scored four runs in the first and fourth innings. Junior Ethan Gasbarro was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and sophomore Zach Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Tenuta pitched five innings without allowing an earned run, striking out four batters.

Lisle 11, Reed-Custer 1:

Junior Brian Czyl went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, classmate Ryan Van Volkenburg blasted a solo home run, and Lisle rolled over Reed-Custer 11-1.

Junior Alex Ventrella (2-3) picked up the win, pitching five innings of one-run ball as Lisle (27-5, 12-1 Interstate Eight) won for the 18th time in its last 19 games. Van Volkenburg finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Downers Grove South 23, Proviso East 0:

Senior Brett Bialek drove in five runs and Downers South scored 19 runs over the fourth and fifth innings in a blowout win over Proviso East.

Bialek finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one of the Mustangs’ six doubles. Senior Travis Hill drove in three runs and was 2-for-3. Juniors Alex Galik and Nick Alfini combined to throw five innings of two-hit ball for Downers Grove South (18-9, 10-5 West Suburban Gold).

Glenbard East 7, West Chicago 1:

Senior Joe Plimmer went 2-for-4 and six different Glenbard East batters knocked in a run in a 7-1 road win over West Chicago.

Junior Danny Ryan scored twice for Glenbard East (15-11, 7-6 DuPage Valley Conference). Junior Nick Vichio picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits in four innings of work.

West Chicago (5-22, 0-14) got a double and an RBI from senior Nick Driscoll. Junior Bill Pearson took the loss.

Naperville North 8, West Aurora 0:

Senior Brock Borgeson allowed just one hit in 6 and Naperville North beat West Aurora 8-0 to extend its winning streak to 10 games.

Senior Alex Moss and junior Pat Mollo drove in two runs apiece for Naperville North (15-11, 9-4 DuPage Valley Conference), which also got a 4-for-5 night from senior Mariano Long.

Wheaton North 9, Naperville Central 1:

Senior Jake Schieber went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run and Wheaton North scored five runs in the first two innings to roll past Naperville Central.

Schieber drove in three runs and junior John Peltz added a pair of RBI for Wheaton North (16-10, 9-4 DuPage Valley Conference). Senior Ed Norris picked up the win, allowing just an unearned run in seven innings of work.

Junior Jack Foote took the loss for Naperville Central (16-9, 10-3) after he allowed five runs — three earned — in three innings. Senior Bryce Kirk drove in the Redhawks’ lone run.

York 7, Hinsdale Central 6:

Senior Mike Trumbull went 2-for-4 with a home run and York scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings to rally past Hinsdale Central.

Junior River Pitlock led York (17-9, 12-3 West Suburban Silver) with four RBI, and senior Jake Rzeszutko was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Senior Greg Castello earned the win.

Junior Basil Arain took the loss for Hinsdale Central, which got a home run and two RBI from junior Adam Dressler.
