Fishing on the ice:

The Lake in the Hills Sportsman's Club will hold its 25th annual ice fishing derby from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Indian Trail Beach on Woods Creek Lake. The children's derby runs from noon to 1 p.m. A raffle follows at 2 p.m. at the Lake in the Hills Property Owners' Association, 1212 Crystal Lake Road. For details, visit lithsportsmansclub.com.

Book lovers, mark your calendars:The Friends of the Dundee Township Library will sell more than 3,000 books that are no longer needed for the library's collection. The Renovation Book Sale will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, and Saturday, Jan. 30, in the meeting room on the lower level. All books will be priced at 50 cents, including hardcovers and paperbacks. There will be no CDs, DVDs or children's books included in the sale.
