Leadership Greater McHenry County interns complete summer program

Leadership Greater McHenry County recently announced six interns successfully completed internships on July 30 as part of the organization's fourth annual Summer Nonprofit Leadership Intern Program.

Participants were selected through a competitive interview process earlier this year.

Applicants for the program included college students with a variety of majors ranging from finance to communications to biology.

The program is focused on building nonprofit leadership acumen and bringing awareness of the impact of nonprofit work in the community.

The interns spent 3½ days per week working with their McHenry County nonprofit host organization leaders, visiting other local nonprofits to learn about their missions, and participating in professional development Fridays during this eight-week program.

All six interns are graduates of McHenry County high schools and attend colleges throughout the U.S. They include: Alison Davis (Crystal Lake Central), University of Minnesota Twin Cities; Grace Goehring (Crystal Lake Central), University of Kansas; Jordyn Knox (Woodstock North), University of Kentucky; Kirsten Morey (Woodstock North), Central Michigan University; Hannah Ritter (Marengo High School), University of Wisconsin Oshkosh; and Clare Ryan (Crystal Lake Central), University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

The interns were matched with their host organizations based on interests, skills, and the host's specific needs.

Host organizations for 2021 included: Family Health Partnership Clinic; Home of the Sparrow; Leadership Greater McHenry County; New Directions Addiction and Recovery Services; Senior Care Volunteer Network; and United Way of Greater McHenry County.
