Libertyville NSDAR chapter helps with face mask shortage
The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in Libertyville has been busy helping to address the shortage of face masks in the area.
The chapter's work began when one of its own chapter members, an MD whose rural clinic cares for some 6,000 patients, had an order for surgical face masks canceled.
Chapter members sprang into action to provide the clinic with cloth masks for their non-COVID patients to wear. This way, staff could reserve their remaining surgical masks and respirators for more critical uses.
Across the country, clinics, nursing homes, hospice centers, first responders, and others were all facing similar difficulties. At Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, they have now donated nearly 1,000 masks to all of these groups, all within 25 miles of the Libertyville area.
"Just knowing we can help in some small way, right from our living rooms, is so gratifying" a chapter member said.
Just a few days after Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter delivered its first batch of masks, NSDAR announced a Face Mask Challenge at the national level. To date, NSDAR members nationally have made more than 346,000 masks.
