Christ Church Mission Fest offers insight into the value of its domestic, global outreach partnerships

Many Americans today think nothing of paying for bottled water over tap water. Residents of the Mathare Valley Slum in Kenya would consider tap water a high prize.

Open and regular affordable access to clean water, not to mention indoor toilets, electricity and sanitation removal, is a rare commodity in Mathare Valley, where not all residents have access to clean water and some water sources can be contaminated with garbage and raw sewage runoff.

That's why Christ Church in Oak Brook and Downers Grove supports global partnerships in Kenya and elsewhere to show love in practical ways by supporting schools as well as efforts to increase access to resources such as clean water.

To allow the public a better understanding of the work done by each of its 90 global and domestic mission partners, Christ Church is holding its annual Mission Fest May 2-5 at its Oak Brook location at 501 Oak Brook Road.

Activities include a presentation at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, and a large dinner and informational event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, where 30 of the church's mission partners will be present to discuss the vital work each does and answer questions.

Salim Munayer, executive director and founder of Musalaha Ministry of Reconciliation, an organization which has worked to bring Israelis and Palestinians together since 1990, will be the guest speaker during May 4-5 services.

Munayer is a professor and former academic dean at Bethlehem Bible College and an adjunct professor at Fuller Theological Seminary who has published several books on reconciliation, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Christians in Israel.

Cost for the May 2-3 events is $10 each.

Supporting domestic and global missions is part of Christ Church's mission and a core element of its effort to share love through supporting organizations and providing resources benefiting others.
