Audition for CLC winter production of 'As You Like It'

Actors ages 14 and older are invited to audition for the College of Lake County's winter production of "As You Like It."

Auditions start at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, and Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Studio Theatre, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, on the Grayslake campus.

Those auditioning should prepare a 90-second to two-minute, memorized monologue from any Shakespeare comedy. CLC encourages performers with music and/or movement training to audition.

Actors need only attend Monday or Tuesday auditions, not both. Bring an acting resume, if available. Callbacks will take place Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6:30-10 p.m.

Rehearsals begin Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, and will be held Monday through Thursday evenings, with possible weekend rehearsals based on cast availability, until tech week, Feb. 22-27.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and 29, and Thursday through Saturday, March 5-7; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1. There also will be a high school matinee at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6. Actors should ensure they are available for performance dates before auditioning.

In "As You Like It," comic twists and turns abound in the mythical Forest of Arden, where a disguised Rosalind seeks refuge after being wrongfully banished by her uncle.

Her unfortunate exile is transformed into a charming adventure when she encounters some of Shakespeare's most beloved characters - colorful fools, witty rustics and the lovesick Orlando. The story is a topsy-turvy journey into one of the most joyous worlds the Bard ever penned.

The show is directed by Craig Rich, chair of CLC's theater department.
