Auditions for ‘Cabaret’ start Dec. 2 at MCC

Submitted by McHenry County College

The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College announces auditions for Kander and Ebb’s “Cabaret.” The musical looks deep into the seedy night life of the Kit Kat Klub on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Weimar Germany. Led by the enigmatic and dazzling emcee, “Cabaret” is an intoxicating theatrical experience, featuring well-known classics of the musical stage such as “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Maybe This Time,” and of course, “Cabaret.”

Auditions will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, and Tuesday, Dec. 3, with callbacks from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5.

Prepare a 2- to 3-minute song and dress to dance. Bring a CD with musical accompaniment or a pianist will be provided. No a cappella auditions will be permitted. There are roles for nine men and eight women, which include two middle-aged roles for Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz. The auditions will be held in Room B166-167 in the MCC Commons area, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

“Cabaret” will be directed by Jay Geller with musical direction by Mike Hillstrom and musical conductor Paige Lush, and choreography by Maggie McCord. Rehearsals will begin Jan. 14 and will be held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as Saturday afternoons.

Performances will be held on March 6-8, 13-16, and 20-22, 2014. For information, call (815) 455-8746 or jgeller@mchenry.edu.
