Cake Decorating I: Melody Stanko, a professional cake decorator for more than 14 years, will teach the basics of cake decorating. Along with an explanation of equipment, supplies, types of frosting and how to prepare the best frosting, students will get hands-on experience with a wide variety of decorating techniques including shells, rosettes, borders, basket weaving and piping. Supplies will cost approximately $25 and will be discussed at the first class. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 8-March 8 in Room D158. Cost is $65. Use course ID NCU S01 002 when registering.

Cake Decorating II: After a review of beginning skills, students will learn how to create more advanced borders, drapes on the sides, and many types of flowers, including pansies, daisies, mums and daffodils. Students will learn how to use different types of icing such as fondant and royal for fancier decorations. Class will culminate in a demonstration of a completed tiered wedding cake. Bring a batch of butter cream icing and basic decorating supplies to the first night of class. Cake Decorating I is a prerequisite for this class. Plan to spend approximately $15 for supplies, which will be discussed at the first class. Class takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays, April 5-May 3 in Room D158. Cost is $65. Use course ID NCU S02 004 when registering.

Cupcake Temptations: Delicious cupcakes are all the rage in desserts, and students will learn easy ways to decorate cupcakes for Easter, spring events and graduation. A list of all supplies will be sent to students before the first class. Beginning cake-decorating skills will help, but it’s not a requirement. Sign up with a friend or your child for an evening of fun decorating. This will be the first in a series of classes on cupcakes and decorating ideas. Class takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 15, in Room D158. Cost is $25. Use course ID NCU S71 003 when registering.
