Watercolor class teaches the basics

Make the most of late summer and delve into fun opportunities, including watercolor, bridge playing or yoga offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department. Watercolor for Beginners: Learn watercolor techniques, no matter what your skill level. Bring a roll of painter's tape, one-inch or wider, a water container and roll of paper towels to the first class. If you already have watercolor paints, bring them with you. A complete supply list will be given at the first class. Previous drawing or painting experience is helpful, but not necessary. Fee is $59. This class will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays, July 31-Aug. 21, in Room D158. Use course ID NFA S60 007 (fall term) when registering.

Bridge -Slam Bidding Made Easy: This is a new course for intermediate level bridge players. Good slam bidding is difficult. This course will concentrate on bidding and feature hand evaluation, control cue bidding and a few important conventions that are helpful in getting into good slams and staying out of the bad ones. Many actual deals will be played in class and a workbook will be provided. Fee is $55. This class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 5-26, in Room E102. Beginner's Yoga: Yoga can help improve strength and flexibility. Asanas (postures) will be explored as they relate to our everyday movements and activities. Bring a large towel. Do not eat a large meal before class and do not wear perfumes or scented body products. Wear comfortable stretch clothing, but nothing too loose. Fee is $45. This class will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays, Aug. 8-29, at Kalitrea Yoga Studio, 4410 Route 176, a half-mile east of Route 31, on the north side in the Camelback Ridge Business Building. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Non-Surgical Solutions: Dr. Michael Cody will educate you on how to correct the causes and get relief from the pain and numbness of carpal tunnel syndrome without surgery. Fee is $15. This class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, in Room E102. Use course ID NHE S77 008 when registering.

Dog Obedience: Would you like your dog to behave around the house, when guests are over and out in public? Then this class is for you and your dog. Training U emphasizes resolution of behavior problems through obedience. The first class is for pet owners only, so you must leave your dog at home. Bring vaccination information. Supplies will be discussed at the first class. All family members who will handle the dog should attend the first session but must be at least 14 years old. Dogs must be at least 4 months old; there is no upper limit. No class Sept. 5. Fee is $195. This class will meet from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Saturdays, Aug 29-Oct. 24, in Room C118. Unwind with Art: Is this left-brained world stressing you out? Are you feeling like you need to use your creative side? Unwind, live in the moment, and have fun by learning new drawing, painting and mixed media ideas and techniques. Make art following the lesson of the day or work on your own projects while instructor Mary Telfer-Holden offers guidance and suggestions. Bring a sketchbook and pencils to the first day. No class Oct. 21. Fee is $145. This class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Sept. 2-Nov. 11, in Room D158. Use course ID NFA S10 001 when registering.
