Dessert demonstration at Crystal Lake food pantry fundraiser
Chef Thomas Kaltenecker will demonstrate how to make mouthwatering desserts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Countryside Flower Shop and Nursery, 5301 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. He is the last of three expert presentations during the "Share, Indulge and Preserve" event to benefit the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kaltenecker is the instructor for MCC's new culinary program debuting this fall. Other demonstrations include recipes to preserve fresh produce and vegetarian alternatives.
Kaltenecker, of Lake in the Hills, was appointed by the MCC board of trustees in April and will teach Introduction to Hospitality and Culinary Skills I & II beginning Monday, Aug. 24. He will also teach dual-credit classes to Woodstock High School students through MCC's Partnership for College and Career Success program.
Kaltenecker strives to provide students with knowledge and hands-on experience in the food industry. The lab portion of his culinary classes will meet at Woodstock North High School through an agreement with Woodstock Unit District 200.
