Breakfast Exchange donationBreakfast Exchange Club of Gurnee has begun handing out its 18 annual monetary awards to local community organizations. The club raises money through events such as "Salad in the Park" in May and the "Rib Fest" that was held Saturday at Gurnee Days. Since 2005, Breakfast Exchange Club of Gurnee has donated more than $70,000 to groups serving Warren Township. "Supporting local organizations that share our goals of promoting youth, Americanism and community service projects - in particular, child-abuse prevention - is the reason we raise funds," said Kevin Woodside, the club's president and a Gurnee deputy police chief.SEDOL advisory board to expandSpecial Education District of Lake County's parent advisory board intends to expand its membership and create a committee to increase communication from school and home. The parent advisory board is described as a collaborative group. The children of the parents and guardians receive special education services through Gages Lake-based SEDOL or a member school. The agenda includes a staff presentation regarding changes to the future land use map in Central Lake Thruway (Route 120) and Heartland Agreement areas.Auditions scheduledActors ages eight to 60 are invited to audition for the College of Lake County Theatre Department's children's production of "Stuart Little." Auditions will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24 and Wednesday, Aug. 25, in the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Actors over the age of 13 should present a 90-second memorized monologue or read a short piece from the play. Actors younger than 13 should be able to show any performance piece that shows their stage presence. The public is invited to attend a free reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 and view the exhibition at the museum, located in the Lakewood Forest Preserve on Route 176 near Wauconda. Nearly 70 artists from Illinois and other areas submitted 227 works. Works on display will be offered for sale to museum members and the public. The competition is a cooperative effort of the Lake County Heritage Farm Foundation, the Friends of the Lake County Discovery Museum, and the Lake County Art League.
