Mundelein musters winning effort
Mundelein’s seniors responded on senior night Thursday.
Emily Dunkin slammed 3 kills, and Taylor Lintner added 4 blocks, as the Mustangs defeated Grant 25-23, 25-22 in a North Suburban Conference crossover.
Mundelein (9-12) played all nine of its seniors.
Madi Wilcox (21-of-21 setting) and Carly Johnson (21-23) dished out 5 and 4 assists, respectively. Lintner, Kayla Denson and Sarah Bregenzer (2 blocks) added 2 kills apiece.
Grant received 4 kills from Kylie Mueller and 4 solo blocks from Anna Panasenko. Kate Kiser and Panasenko served 2 aces apiece.
Lake Zurich d. Wauconda: Mallory Parsons had 7 kills to lead the host Bears to their 20th win of the season, 25-13, 25-20 in an NSC crossover.
Lake Zurich (20-2) got 5 kills and 20 assists from Kristen Walding and 4 kills apiece from Kiley McPeek, Sydney Glover and Allie McIlwain. Mickenzie Andrews played big at the net too, registering 4 blocks and 3 kills. Marta Tabaka served 4 aces, while Ashley Dina had 18 digs.
Susan Karhoff’s 7 kills and 2 aces, and LeAnne Sakowicz’s 6 aces and 6 assists led Wauconda (13-6). Lauren Nee had 7 digs for the Bulldogs.
Warren d. North Chicago: Alyssa Rapp slammed 4 kills, as the Blue Devils won the NSC crossover 25-10, 25-9.
Charlotte Bryd and Kim Hengesh each had 3 kills for Warren, while Lauren Frericks lofted 19 assists.
Stevenson d. Lakes: Khaila Donaldson pounded 6 kills and collected 9 digs, and Julia Osmond had 3 solo and 3 assisted blocks, as the Patriots won the NSC crossover 25-22, 25-16 and cooled off the Eagles.
Grace Duffy added 3 kills for Stevenson (10-5), while Nikki Zarytsky served 2 aces. Alexa Bykowski dished out 11 assists, and Peyton Bykowski chalked 10 digs.
Megan Behrendt and McKenna Lahr had 6 and 4 kills, respectively, for Lakes. Lisa Buehler dished out 13 assists, Aly Bathery had 10 digs and Abbey Buehler notched 8 digs.
Lake Forest d. Vernon Hills: Mia Polisky had 3 kills for the Cougars, who dropped the NSC crossover 25-7, 25-14.
Katie Brettman delivered 2 aces for Vernon Hills (4-17).
Grayslake North d. Hampshire: Alaina Geissberger had 7 kills, and the Knights netted a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16 victory in Fox Valley Fox play.
Grayslake North (7-13, 3-5) also got contributions from Summer Camper (5 kills), Nicole LeBaron (4 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs), Bailee Hardy (3 kills, 2 blocks), Maggie Fish (2 kills, 3 blocks), C assie Reimbold (2 aces, 11 digs), Stefani Keilwitz (13-of-14 serving, 1 ace), Jess Sostaric (10 assists) and Kendall Buchman (52-of-52 setting, 13 assists, 2 aces, 3 kills, 10 digs).
Johnsburg d. Grayslake Central: Alex Dahlstrom’s 11 kills were not enough for the Rams, who lost 18-25, 25-18, 25-20 in Fox Valley Fox action.
Gabi Casper contributed 7 kills, 20 digs and 2 aces for Grayslake Central (17-7, 4-3). Anna Basten had 5 kills, and Hayley Peterson set 90 of 91 with 25 assists. The Rams also got 5 blocks apiece from Allie Daul and Basten.
“We had a new sense of energy tonight against a solid Johnsburg team,” Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said.
