Please keep pressure on Deer Park

Thank you for keeping the Muddy Paws tragedy in front of the community. The public is relying on your resources and reporting to keep it informed on the details of the tragedy, assessment of where state and local agencies failed and on the legal developments as the case moves through the court system.

Your Jan. 05, 2011 Opinion stated very poignantly what the residents with whom I have talked believe. As a Deer Park resident, I hope the village will proactively examine its animal welfare-related ordinances and its business and animal shelter registration/inspection procedures.

The purpose of this review would be to identify any additional steps it could take to ensure the existence of a stronger animal welfare safety net in Deer Park. I believe this is the ethical and moral thing for the village to do.

Thank you again for your reporting and your published opinion on the Muddy Paws tragedy. The animals deserve no less.
