Carol Stream club throws a party for needy senior's birthday

The 30 members of the Carol Stream Woman's Club threw a festive birthday bash for the low-income senior they sponsor through the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizen Project. The club has been a proud sponsor of needy seniors in HSP's program for over 20 years and has always tried to make their adopted senior's birthday memorable by sending presents. This year the Carol Stream Woman's Club decided to go all out and hold a birthday party for their senior's 73rd birthday. Michelle Blakely, vice president of programs for the club, said, “We had so much fun putting the party together. The festivities included beautifully wrapped gifts, decorations, cake and many happy attendees! We wanted our senior to feel remembered and cared for on her birthday. She had put together a “wish list” and we got her pretty much everything she was hoping for!”

The HSP's Senior Citizen Project provides 120 needy seniors in DuPage and Kane counties with a monthly delivery of 90 lbs. of groceries that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, a variety of frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and a monthly Holiday Meal delivered by volunteers.

Karole Kettering, Executive Director of the HSP said, “The Carol Stream Woman's Club certainly takes it's motto of “Working together for a better community” to heart. The members have been such great friends of the charity by not only sponsoring a senior, but by holding food and toy drives to help our other projects that serve needy children and families. They truly know how to have fun and do so much good for a very deserving senior at the same time.”
