March 13: Dr. Jane Thierfeld Brown, autism authority, to speak at CLC

Helping students with autism succeed in college is the topic of a community presentation by Jane Thierfeld Brown, Ed. D., a leading authority on autism in higher education, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 in Room T326 at the College of Lake County's Grayslake Campus.

Dr. Brown is assistant clinical professor in the Yale Child Study program of the Yale University Medical School. She also is director of the Connecticut-based College Autism Spectrum, an independent organization of professionals who assist students with autism spectrum disorders as well as their families. Dr. Brown previously served as director of student services at the University of Connecticut School of Law. Having worked in disability services for 39 years, she holds an Ed.D. from Columbia University's Teachers College. She also consults nationwide with families, students, school districts and institutions of higher education.

Among Dr. Brown's media appearances are ABC's "Good Morning America," CBS News and NPR. She has co- authored "Student with Asperger's: A Guide for College Professionals" and "The Parent's Guide to College for Students on the Autism Spectrum." Additionally, she has co-authored "Behavior Management and Self-Regulation" and many textbook chapters and articles.
