Register for Free Youth Robotics Competition at CLC
Looking for a fun, affordable way to introduce 8th- to 12th-grade students to STEM fields such as engineering and computer science? Sign up now for the first-ever Lake County Robotics Competition, scheduled for next spring at the College of Lake County's Grayslake Campus. Teams register for the free event on a first-come, first-served basis online at www.clcillinois.edu/events/lcrc.
Leading up to the Lake County Robotics Competition on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, student teams design robots that help the environment by improving recycling and waste disposal. CLC's engineering department will help teams build and test their robots during Makerweek Build Days on Saturdays once a month December through April. Teams also can prepare for the competition by participating in a mid-winter scrimmage on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
"With support from the Holly Kim Foundation and the CLC Engineering Transfer department, the competition's free admission makes it a very attractive bargain," said Rob Twardock, CLC engineering department chair and an event organizer. "In formal robotics competitions held around the country, it costs at least $5,000 for only one team to compete. By eliminating the entry fee, we are giving an opportunity to many students who normally can't participate due to the high cost and time commitment. And with free loaner kits available to eligible schools on a first-come, first-serve basis, the startup cost for a team to compete is minimal."
