April 12 to May 12: CLC's 38th Annual Student Art Competition exhibit

A huge variety of artwork created by College of Lake County students will be on display April 12 through May 12 at the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake Campus. The 38th Annual CLC Student Art Competition is a juried exhibit featuring painting, drawing, computer graphics, photography, ceramics, jewelry, digital media and sculpture.

At the 6-8 p.m. opening reception on Friday, April 12, the gallery will award $1,200 in cash prizes and purchase awards, including three $100 awards of excellence, two $50 awards of merit and a $100 3-D emerging artist award. Other prizes include a $100 2-D emerging artist award, a $100 ceramics award, two purchase awards for the CLC permanent collection and two $500 scholarships from the Lake County Art League. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m.

The reception is free, open to the public and will include refreshments and live music by Benjamin Clarke: Quarter Mile Thunder.

The juror for the show is Dan Ziembo, CLC art professor emeritus who taught courses including printmaking, drawing, design and computer art and painting from 1970 to 1999. Ziembo has exhibited for many years through Roy Boyd Gallery Chicago, and his work is included in many major art collections internationally.
