Restore, The Gospel Justice Conference coming to Judson University June 7-8

The Gospel Justice Initiative is hosting Restore, The Gospel Justice Conference on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, in the Herrick Chapel at Judson University, 1151 N. State St. in Elgin.

The Restore Conference is open to attorneys, students, church leaders, and anyone in the community who desires to be an advocate for justice.

Led by the nation's leading Christian legal experts, Restore provides practical tools and resources to deepen your justice impact to serve people in desperate need of legal aid.

Speaking at the conference will be:

• Dr. Soong-Chan Ra, professor of church growth and evangelism at North Park University in Chicago and author of the 2015 nonfiction book "Prophetic Lament: A Call for Justice in Troubled Times."

• The Rev. Alvin Bibbs, president and CEO of the Justice Journey Alliance and community and faith engagement officer for Together Chicago, and author of "Crazy Enough to Care: Changing Your World Through Compassion, Justice and Racial Reconciliation."

• R. Gracie Travis Murphree, Justice Champion and founder of Heart of Christ Ministries in Honduras, and author of "Journey to Justice: Finding God and Destiny in Darkness."

• Bruce D. Strom, lawyer and CEO of Gospel Justice Initiative and author of "Gospel Justice: Joining Together to Provide Help and Hope for those Oppressed by Legal Injustice."

Continuing Legal Education credits will be available for attorneys.

Session topics for Friday are: "Tools for Reaching Clients and the Community for Greater Impact," "Non-Lawyer Training For Impact Through Legal Ministry," "Utilizing a Growth Assessment Tool for Knowing When and How to Grow," "How to Raise Funds and Friends Through a Step-by-step Donor Process," and "How to Receive a Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic Grant to Serve Your Community."

Session topics for Saturday morning are: "Ending The Cycle Of Poverty," "How to Have Life-Changing Impact Through Legal Ministry," "Trafficking 101," "2019 Tax Law Update for Attorneys and Their Clients," "Navigating a Broken Immigration System," and "Violence Reduction."

Session topics for Saturday afternoon are: "Is Christian Legal Aid Ethical Under the Rules of Professional Responsibility?," "How to Root Emerging Leaders in Gospel Justice Advocacy," "Rest from the 80-Hour Work Week," "America's Aging Population," "Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment," and "Justice in Third World Places."
