March 8: CLC hosts leadership conference for students from middle school through college
Are you a student in middle school, high-school or college in Lake County? Do you want to build your leadership skills for future success? Ignite your potential and make new friends, at the second annual Young Leaders Summit, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 8 at the College of Lake County. The event, which is free of charge and includes a lunch, takes place in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts.
The keynote speaker is Carlos Ojeda, Jr., former educator and founder of CoolSpeak, a youth engagement speakers' company. His published book, "The Power of Youth: It All Begins With You," is also the title of his talk. Breakout sessions include: the value of a college degree; navigating the college application process; leading with passion and purpose; and life-planning tips for middle-school students. Additionally, Chicago-based poets Awthentik and Phenom will present leadership poems.
Registration and continental breakfast take place from 8:30-9 a.m. The event is co-sponsored by two CLC organizations, Men of Vision and Sister to Sister.
