Concert series season begins Sunday at MCC
The Second Sunday Concert Series at McHenry County College begins its 2009-2010 season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, featuring Chicago Brass Band Players. The concert will be held in the MCC Conference Center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
The Chicago Brass Band Players was founded in 2002 as the elite small ensemble within the 30-piece Chicago Brass Band.
The group consists of 10 players including four trumpets, one horn, four trombones and one tuba.
Both the band and the CBBP perform and compete in the Chicago area, in festivals throughout the U.S. and in international contests.
The CBBP won the small ensemble competition in 2003, 2005 and 2006 at the North American Brass Band Association and was runner-up in 2004.
The following Second Sunday and other MCC concerts are free and at 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted: Nov. 8, classical guitarist Brian Torosian; Nov. 18, MCC Music Department Fall Concert featuring the MCC Performing Ensembles at 7 p.m.; Jan. 10, Cooper, Nelson & Early folk musicians; Feb. 14, jazz artists Maureen Christine and Michael Bazan; March 14, the woodwind quintet, Winds Off The Lake; March 18, St. Patrick's Day Concert featuring Pat Gaughan and L.J. Slavin at 7 p.m.; April 11, MCC Music Department Spring Concert featuring MCC Concert Band, MCC Choir and MCC Chamber Ensembles; April 21, MCC Spring Jazz Concert at 7 p.m.; and May 2, Sessions Jazz Quartet.
Also on Dec. 13, Handel's "Messiah" will feature the MCC Choir and Voices in Harmony at 4 p.m. at the Raue Center, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake.
