Innovators wanted for April 25 Maker Faire Lake County at CLC

The first Maker Faire Lake County, a show-and-tell for innovative designers, creators, builders and tinkerers, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the College of Lake County's Grayslake Campus. To apply to be a maker at the event, register for free by March 20 at www.clcillinois.edu/makerfaire.

The Maker Faire will celebrate the multifaceted fields of making, perfect for creative children and adults in Lake County, from engineers to scientists to crafters. The event will also showcase CLC's home for makers, the Baxter Innovation Lab, which opened in 2018.

Innovations can be hobbies, experiments or projects ranging from human-powered machines to drones to wearables and e-textiles. Other ideas can come from the following areas: science, biology and chemistry projects; electric vehicles; interactive art and technology; kites; puppets; robotics; rockets; or sustainability and green technology. Ideas also can come from digital fabrication, including 3-D printing, computerized numerical control programming and laser technology.

Maker Faire Lake County is part of the college's inaugural Maker Week, April 18-25. Events include the 4-H Robotics Showcase, as well as the Lake County Robotics Competition finals, Big Idea, Jr. competition and a Rube Goldberg Challenge.

Maker Faire applications will be reviewed by a committee, and all applicants will be notified of approval. For more information, including how to answer the Call for Makers, visit the website or email clc.makerfaire@clcillinois.edu.
