April 22-26: CLC celebrates Earth Week with free presentations and events
From learning about air pollution in Lake County to bee conservation and environmental careers, learn what you can do at home to help make our world more sustainable during the College of Lake County's Earth Week events April 22-26. The activities are free and open to the public and are organized by the CLC Facilities department and presented by CLC instructors and other experts.

Clean Air and Clean Power in Lake County: Monday, April 22, 7-8:30 p.m., Lakeshore Campus, Room 008, 1 N. Genesee St., Waukegan. Lake County-based scientists will discuss pollution problems in Lake County and opportunities to support clean energy alternatives.
Green Roofs: Form AND Function: Tuesday, April 23, 1-2 p.m., Southlake Campus, Room V328, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills. Green roofs are not just for decoration. Jason Cashmore, CLC biology professor, will explain the benefits of green roofs for buildings and the environment.
Restorative Justice and Sustainable Communities: Tuesday, April 23, 6-8 p.m., Room A011 Auditorium. A panel discussion, consisting of a judge, a former FBI agent, and a school social worker, will explain the role of restorative justice and practices in sustainable communities. While most approaches to criminal justice concentrate on punishing or treating law-breakers, the restorative justice process seeks to repair the harm by involving the entire community in rehabilitating offenders and holding them accountable for their behavior.
Environmental Career Meet and Greet: Tuesday, April 23, 6-8 p.m., Student Street and Commons. Meet some of the top environmental professionals in the Chicago area and hear stories of how they turned their passion for the environment into successful careers. The session is for anyone searching for a first or second career. More than a dozen professionals will be on hand, from architects and educators to managers of natural areas and water-treatment plants.
Snakes Alive!: Wednesday, April 24, 7-8:30 p.m., Grayslake Campus, Room A011 Auditorium. CLC faculty will present a kid-friendly program, an up-close and personal introduction to different animals, from lizards to snake species.
Earth Week Indoor Farm Market: Thursday, April 25, 3-5 p.m., Student Street and Commons. Visit with CLC's campus farm manager and over one dozen local food producers to purchase some of the first greens of the season, raw and local honey and teas from herbs grown on CLC's Campus Farm. Learn where to find locally sourced food in farm markets around Lake County.
The Buzz About Bees: Thursday, April 25, 6-7:30 p.m., Room A011 Auditorium. CLC is now a Bee Campus USA. Ed Popelka, CLC maintenance engineer and beekeeper, will explain CLC's apiary (managed beehives) and honey extraction. Sample locally produced honey and find out where to buy it at CLC.
Earth Week 5K Fun Run/Walk: Friday, April 26, 11 a.m. registration and noon start, outside of Physical Education Center (Building 7). Join the Social Action Club for a 5K Run or Walk on the trails at CLC's Grayslake Campus. Choose one of the charities with your $5.00 entry fee donation to support our Race for the Earth.
