March 2: Women's conference stresses empowerment, healthy living

Practical tips on topics ranging from career success to healthy eating are part of the seventh annual "Empowering the Woman in You," a free conference from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at the College of Lake County. The event, which is open to Lake County women age 16 and older, will take place in Lower Level A Wing of the Grayslake Campus.

The keynote speaker is Karyn Quick, a Lake County-based information technology leader, speaker, career coach and author. She holds a B.S. in computer science from Jackson State University and an M.B.A. from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University. At the conference, Quick will present highlights from her book, "Cubeonomics," which explains strategies to help women move beyond the confinements of their office cubicles in order to gain visibility, create strategic relationships and boost their brand. Breakout sessions cover topics including healthy eating, financial planning and networking basics. A complimentary boutique includes the distribution of free, gently used business attire for job interviews.
