Wellness resolutions: CLC facilities, programs offer cost-effective tools and support

Searching for an economical way to keep those 2019 resolutions to trim pounds, stay fit and improve your overall health? Looking for a course-or career-in a field that promotes wellness? The College of Lake County offers several convenient programs open to all Lake County residents:

•Fitness Center: Located in the Grayslake Campus' Physical Education Center, the Fitness Center is available free of charge to current CLC students enrolled in a credit class, as well as to CLC staff and alumni association members. For community members, the cost is $75 per semester, $50 for the Summer Session or a discounted $200 annual fee. The facility includes state-of-the-art equipment updated in 2018. For an aerobic workout, choose among treadmills, ellipticals and bikes. Strength equipment includes free weights, benches, kettle bells, a Smith machine, several multi-functional trainers and a Connexus unit. Additionally, six flat-screen televisions help make the exercise time go quickly, and participants can store belongings and take a shower in clean, convenient locker rooms.

Jeremy Green, a Grayslake resident who has exercised two to three times per week in the Fitness Center since last July, said the Fitness Center's convenient location, equipment selection and economical fee have helped him stick with his fitness plan. "It's clean, well-maintained and has a nice variety of equipment for both strength and conditioning," said Green, whose routine ranges from lifting kettle bells to pulling elastic TRX® straps to build muscle flexibility. "The atmosphere is also friendly and non-competitive, and the TVs and up-tempo music help make working out enjoyable."

The Fitness Center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 7:30 to 4 p.m. on Fridays. For details, visit http://www.clcillinois.edu/campus-life/fitness-and-wellness/fitness-center.

•Center for Health and Wellness: Located on the Southlake Campus, the center provides a personal trainer, wellness coach and a massage therapist, all available by appointment. The Student Therapeutic Massage Clinic offers a hands-on opportunity for massage therapy

students to improve their skills under the guidance of a licensed therapist/instructor, available by appointment Monday-Friday. The library is located on the second floor, with expansive, south-facing views of Willow Lake. For hours, visit https://researchguides.clcillinois.edu/libraryhome.
