Welcome to the Senior Helpers Resource Center
The Senior Helpers Resource Center provides an array of medical and health information. The Resource Center contains a collection of easy-to-read health and lifestyle related materials, as well as DVDs, for patients and their families to become better informed and make more educated decisions about various treatment options available to them.
"Our resource center has material covering dementia, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's. Here is a list of some of the information that is available to you so you can enhance the well-being you your loved one and learn to take an active role in decisions about their health," said Director of Operations Robert Bicanic, at Northbrook-based Senior Helpers serving the north and northwest suburbs to the Wisconsin border.
At the Senior Helpers Resource Center, the community will find Teepa Snow Alzheimer's DVDs that explain how to communicate with a loved one who has the disease. There are also multiple books on Alzheimer's including The 36 Hour Day, The Alzheimer's Playbook, Where's Alice and many others. Visitors can also read copies of the Alzheimer's Foundation Quarterly Magazine.
In addition, there are flyers with Alzheimer's prevention tips, as well as Senior Gems Dementia State Overviews. Because there are other forms of dementia, the resource center has articles on them as well.
According to the Parkinson's Association, there are as many as one million people diagnosed with this disease. The resource center has information on the 10 warning signs of Parkinson's, the Parkinson's Foundation DVD, newsletters and care manual. In addition, there is also a flyer to help Parkinson's caregivers take care of themselves.
There are materials on exercise programs specifically designed for Parkinson's patients as Chicago Dance and Rock Steady Boxing, which focuses on training programs to meet the fitness levels at all stages of Parkinson's - from those newly diagnosed to those who have been living with it for decades.
No appointment is necessary to use the resource center.
