Downers Grove Choral Society Begins 58th Concert Season 2016-2017
The Downers Grove Choral Society, under the direction of Artistic Director John Patrick Rakes, announces its 58th Season and invites new and returning vocalists to join us on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Milnes Room at the Indian Boundary YMCA, Downers Grove, to secure music for the first of three concerts and begin rehearsals. All new members are asked to schedule a voice hearing with the Artistic Director. Downers Grove Choral Society, anchored in Downers Grove, draws its members from around the Chicagoland area. Our membership extends well beyond Downers Grove, including such communities as Western Springs, Elgin, Woodridge, Lemont, Wheaton, Frankfort, Naperville, Burr Ridge, Lombard, Bolingbrook, Villa Park and Willowbrook, to name just a few.
The Downers Grove Choral Society is looking forward to its exciting 58th Season which begins on Sunday, November 13, 2016 with Arthur Honegger's King David. There will be a Pre-Concert Discussion at 3:15 p.m., followed by the 4:00 p.m. concert.
The second concert, For Love of Song, featuring Eric Whitacre's Five Hebrew Songs, James Mulholland's Four Robert Burns Ballads plus more songs. The Choral Society will be joined by Ragazze of Spirito! Singers on Sunday, February 12, 2017. There will be a Pre-Concert Discussion at 3:15 p.m., followed by the 4:00 p.m. concert.
Sunday, April 23, 2017 is the date for Music of the Stage, featuring Theatrical music, including opera choruses, Gilbert & Sullivan, and a musical portrait of George & Ira Gershwin. There will be a Pre-Concert Discussion at 3:15 p.m., followed by the 4:00 p.m. concert.
All concerts will be presented at Downers Grove First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Avenue, Downers Grove.
The Downers Grove Choral Society rehearses Monday evenings, beginning August 29, 2016, 7:30 - 9:45 p.m., in the Milnes Room at the Indian Boundary YMCA, 59th and Fairmont, Downers Grove.
