Scholarships Awarded to Five Northwest Suburban High School Seniors
The Chicago Northwest Suburban Alumnae Panhellenic (CNWSAP) held its annual awards banquet on April 29, at The Cotillion in Palatine. Five $1200 scholarships were presented to college-bound women. Each of these young women has maintained an excellent scholastic record while also contributing in multiple ways to her school and community
The scholarship winners for 2015 are: Christina Eddleman from Lake Zurich High School, who will attend the University of New Hampshire; Madison McAteer of St. Viator High School, who will be going to Purdue University; Carolyn Niersbach of Hersey High School, ready to attend the University of North Carolina; Elizabeth Niersbach of Hersey High School, who will attend Indiana University; and Laurel Wenckowski from Lake Zurich High School, heading to the University of Alabama in the fall. Funds for these scholarships were raised by the women of Northwest Suburban Alumnae Panhellenic.
Each year the CNWSAP is committed to providing scholarships for previous applicants and winners of these scholarships in the amount of $500. Prior applicants and winners must have pledged a sorority to be eligible. Four collegiate scholarships were randomly drawn and announced at the awards banquet.
Outstanding alumnae from each of the thirteen member sororities were honored and Deb Keyes was named the Outstanding Panhellenic Delegate for 2014-2015.
The Athena Award was given to Barbara M. White of Sigma Kappa sorority. Barb is generous with her time and expertise, especially when women and children are the beneficiaries. Her contributions to the community are wide-ranging, and include: vice-chair of the American Heart Association's Go Red fundraising luncheon, Habitat for Humanity site volunteer and budget counselor, Elgin YWCA treasurer and past board member, event sponsor and volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club of Dundee, the past president and member of Women in Management, and more. Barb owns her own financial planning firm, and she also authors a blog and newsletter that use humor and insightful analogies to explain complicated financial concepts. The Athena Award recognizes sorority women who have demonstrated excellence in leadership through their professional, community and cultural involvement.
