Kindercare 'stuffs the bus' for needy seniors

The Kindercare of Roselle recently donated a large amount of paper products for the sake of the needy seniors served by The Humanitarian Service Project (HSP), of Dupage County. HSP supports through their Senior Citizen Project, 121 impoverished seniors, providing them monthly deliveries of 100 lbs. of much needed groceries The staff and children of Kindercare donated the paper products through a “stuff the bus” event, in which they brought in donations to fill their bus with facial tissue, toilet paper, and paper towels to give to the seniors in need.

This drive from Kindercare in Roselle is a part of the ongoing mission of the local Kindercare district to reach out to the needy of the community. In June, HSP hosted a group of directors and managers from 12 local Kindercare locations, who volunteered their time in our warehouse to sort toys for the needy children served by the organization. Director of the Roselle Kindercare Liz Kase, was inspired after this event to run the “stuff the bus” drive. The needy seniors in the project will receive these paper products as part of their monthly 100 lb. delivery of groceries, which include various types of fresh produce, bread, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift, gifts at Christmas time, and much needed household items on their “wish list”.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,616 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 121 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 5,200 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
