Music highlights Day of the Dead event at MCC

McHenry County College will host a Day of the Dead program featuring Calle Sur, a Colombian-Panamanian duo that will perform with other musicians for the “Viva Mexico” musical debut from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, featuring music from Mexico and South America.
Following the performance, Calle Sur members will enlighten the audience with a historical presentation of Day of the Dead from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Both activities will take place in the Luecht Conference Center at MCC, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebration where the whole family comes together to remember and honor the deceased.
Calle Sur also will perform Latin American music from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the MCC cafeteria.
A Day of the Dead altar created by MCC’s Latinos Unidos student organization will be on display through Nov. 3 across from the Student Life Office, Room A252.
