Advocate Good Shepherd Hosts Diabetes Health Clinic

Barrington, IL- Do you have a family member diagnosed with diabetes? You may be biologically predisposed to the disease. Join us at the Diabetes Health Clinic on Saturday, November 17 from 8 am – 12 pm at the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Out Patient Center, 2284 County Line Road, Algonquin, Illinois 60102.

The clinic is open to anyone in the community interested in receiving a screening for blood glucose level. Please note: screenings like the finger stick to check blood glucose level and the A1C level test require that you fast for 12 hours for accurate readings. Continue to take your regular medications as prescribed.

According to Endocrinologist, Daniel So, MD, “the clinic will be beneficial to diagnose community members as diabetic or prediabetic and provide them with the educational tools they need.” Dr. So, and other Advocate Good Shepherd Diabetes Educators, will be available to answer questions and provide one-on-one consultation during the clinic. Follow-up screenings will be scheduled if necessary.

In America, over 25 million people are currently diagnosed with diabetes and a startling 79 million people are diagnosed as prediabetic. Prediabetes is classified by higher than normal blood sugar levels; this condition is a precursor to Type 2 diabetes. Although, it may take several years to become full-blown diabetes; unchecked prediabetes can still threaten your long-term heart health and circulatory system.

The good news is that a prediabetes diagnosis does not guarantee the onset of diabetes. The condition can be reversed if blood sugar levels subside. The best way to combat prediabetes is to foster a healthy lifestyle. Make healthy changes to your diet, exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy body weight.

The Diabetes Health Clinic requires a $10 fee and registration. You may pre-register for the clinic by calling 1.800.3ADVOCATE (1.800.323.8622), mention the class code 3D04, or go to www.advocatehealth.com/gshp and click on “I need a class or support group”, and type the class code into the keyword box.
