James Lumber Center announces its ‘Sweet 16’ season

The James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts 2012-13 Professional Touring Season at the College of Lake County includes classical and jazz music, acrobatics, dance, comedy, drama, magicians and jugglers.

Subscriptions to the upcoming JLC season are on sale now at the James Lumber Center Box Office on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

Patrons who purchase tickets to three or more different events enjoy special subscriber benefits and save 15 percent over single-ticket prices.

“Our 16th season will really be sweet, with a wider variety of events — 16 in all — designed to attract new and seasoned patrons alike,” said Gwethalyn Bronner, executive director, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts.

Bronner said she is particularly excited about introducing Lake County audiences to two tribute performances: Hotel California: A Salute to the Eagles and Lisa Rock in Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters.

“Both shows really capture the spirit of the original musicians,” Bronner said.

Acts returning to the JLC in 2012-13 include magician Mike Super, Ruth Page Civic Ballet’s “The Nutcracker,” Giordano Dance Chicago and the comedy of 3 Blonde Moms … See How They Run.

Many styles of music are on the schedule, from jazz (Orbert Davis Quintet, Swingin’ the Benny Goodman Songbook and Stormy Weather: The Lena Horne Project) to classical (Imani Winds and Moscow Boys Choir) and country (the Katie Armiger Trio).

The season will also include a comedy thriller theatrical performance of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps,” the comedic juggling of Gravity Attacks! and the circus acrobatics of Cirque Ziva.

“There is truly something for everyone to enjoy.” Bronner said. “We have it all here.”

New this season will be preshow mingles — a time to connect with friends before the show and enjoy food and beverages in the lobby, according to Bronner.
