Neuqua Valley sweeps Metea Valley
Neuqua Valley swept an Upstate Eight Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday from District 204 rival Metea Valley, winning 5-0 and 7-1. Wildcats senior Tanner Giesel went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI in Game 1 as Nick Blackburn picked up the victory. He struck out eight in a complete game. Dan Mokrzycki was the winning pitcher in the second game, striking out six in six innings.
Wheaton North 3, Riverside-Brookfield 2:
Junior Ryan Kent went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the Falcons’ nonconference triumph in Wheaton. Senior Justin Harrington (3-1) struck out seven in a complete game for Wheaton North (13-6).
Benet 10-2, St. Viator 0-3:
Joe Boyle went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI for the Redwings in Game 1 of an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader split. He went 2-for-3 in Game 2. Chris Sanderson earned the victory on the mound in the first game, going the distance and striking out 11.
South Elgin 2-1, Waubonsie Valley 1-2:
The Warriors’ Troy Fumagalli struck out eight over eight innings to win Game 2 of an Upstate Eight Conference doubleheader. He also scored one of the Warriors’ runs in the win. James Palasz was the hard-luck loser in the first game, going the distance and striking out four.
Bartlett 2-1, Lake Park 0-5:
Ryan Castello (2-2) picked up the victory in Game 2 of an Upstate Eight Conference doubleheader for the Lancers (11-9, 7-5).
Naperville North 14-8, Oswego 4-5:
Mariano Long, Alex Moss and Conner Adamski each drove in 3 runs in Naperville North’s Game 1 victory, and Kevin Walsh (3-0) earned the victory for the Huskies (8-11). In Game 2 junior Nick Solak hit a 2-run double and senior Garrett Borg hit a 2-run triple.
Minooka 8, Glenbard South 2:
Mitch Gasbarro went 1-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for Glenbard South (11-8) in a nonconference loss.
